Feld Center No-Show Policy

The Feld Center invests significant time and resources to create industry engagement, networking, and career development opportunities for Questrom students and alumni. This work includes building employer relationships, coordinating speakers and senior executives, managing registrations and waitlists, reserving space, and ordering catering based on expected attendance.

When someone registers but does not attend, they waste employer and staff time, create unnecessary catering expenses, disrupt waitlists, and may take an opportunity away from another deserving participant. A no-show is also unprofessional and can negatively affect the reputation of the individual, Questrom, and Boston University.

By registering for an event or appointment, you are committing to attend. Failure to cancel or notify the appropriate contact will be considered a no-show.

  • Cancel in Handshake at least 24 hours in advance so your spot can be released to another participant.
  • If it is less than 24 hours away:
    • Appointment: Email your advisor, coach, or consultant using the contact information listed in Handshake.
    • Event: Email questromcareers@bu.edu, as Handshake will no longer allow you to unregister.

These opportunities are limited and often involve students being specifically selected or identified in advance. A no-show is directly visible to the employer and may damage the student’s professional reputation. Employer treks may also require participant information for security, building access, and personalized programming.

  • One no-show: You will be immediately blocked from Handshake and Feld Center privileges, including participation in Questrom resume books and consideration for future campus-hosted interviews.

To be reinstated, you must meet with Martha Day Sanford, Executive Director of Industry Relations. Email marthas@bu.edu to request a meeting. Meeting availability is limited, and you may need to wait several days. Requests outside of available meeting times will not be considered.

Attendance affects catering, event planning, and waitlist availability. A no-show may create unnecessary costs and prevent another student from attending.

  • First no-show: Your Handshake profile will be tagged, and you will receive a warning email.
  • Second no-show: You will be blocked from Handshake until you email marthas@bu.edu with an explanation.
  • Third no-show: You will be blocked from Handshake and all Feld Center privileges until you meet with Martha Day Sanford, Executive Director of Industry Relations. Email marthas@bu.edu to request a meeting.

A no-show prevents another deserving person from receiving career guidance and does not meet professional expectations for honoring scheduled commitments.

  • First no-show: Your advisor, coach, or ExecConnect consultant will contact you to check on your well-being.
  • Second no-show: Your advisor, coach, or ExecConnect consultant will contact you and remind you of the professional expectation to honor scheduled meetings.
  • Third no-show: You will be blocked from Handshake and all Feld Center privileges until you meet with a Director of Career Services. Email questromcareers@bu.edu to request a meeting.
