Social Impact

Social Impact is the focus of business responses to social, racial, and environmental issues that permeate our global quest for profitability.  Sustainability is the practice of doing something such that future generations benefit and there’s minimal to no detriment in carrying out the act on the planet or on people. Sustainability is an organization’s holistic approach to improving the triple bottom line (profits, people, and planet). This approach accounts for every aspect of the business from manufacturing to logistics to customer service, tackling social and environmental challenges, from climate change to global poverty. Terms like Triple Bottom Line (TBL), Environmental & Social Governance (ESG), Socially Responsible Investing (SRI), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Business Practices (SBPs) all fall under the Social Impact umbrella.
Business students who are passionate about improving the planet and people’s lives can find jobs and internships across industry sectors and within a range of organizations — from startups to nonprofits, from Fortune 100 companies to government agencies — all of which create value and positive impact, not just turn a profit.
