At a time of rock-bottom jet fuel prices, BP (LON:BP) has come up with a novel idea to move stockpiles and do societal good in the same instance by donating millions of gallons to help in the delivery of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essential goods in the U.S. as the country’s battles against the coronavirus or Covid-19 pandemic.

Confirming the move on Wednesday (April 29), the oil giant said it would supply 3 million gallons of jet fuel to FedEx Express EXPR charter flights and Alaska Airlines ALK at “no cost” to support the timely delivery of essential goods to areas of the U.S. at greatest risk from the coronavirus.

BP will also “offset the carbon emissions” of all donated fuel deliveries.

Susan Dio, Chairman and President of BP America, said: “Frontline medical providers depend on PPE to treat patients suffering from Covid-19 and to save lives. BP is working to help deliver this equipment quickly by donating jet fuel to air carriers who will get supplies where they need to go.”
