Written by Southwest Panel

MARK ELLWOOD: We’re going to talk about overtourism, which I’m sure is a word everyone has heard an awful lot, and I want to give you some examples of what we’re talking about. How many of you on a recent trip has felt like your experience was impacted by there just being too many people? Okay, now I know why you’re here! I think you understand what I’m talking about, and Trolltunga in Norway is my favorite example. You might have seen it on a million social media posts, and that’s kind of the problem. In 2009, this little spit of a cliff in Norway had 500 visitors. In 2014, it had 40,000.
